Next to Holt and the North Norfolk Coast lies Riverbank, a luxurious boutique cottage inspired by a mixture of modern and traditional British design

A perfectly sized, highly considered retreat

Why Riverbank is your dream retreat

Deeply peaceful, restorative setting

Nights at Riverbank are truly dark and cocooning, with no street lights and big, starlit skies wrapping the cottage in quiet. Guests fall asleep to the sounds of owls and other nocturnal animals in the surrounding woods, far away from traffic and city noise, making it wonderfully easy to switch off and reset.

Inspirational interiors, thoughtfully curated

Riverbank has been created as a luxurious boutique cottage, blending modern and traditional British design with richly textured fabrics, wallpapers and carefully chosen pieces. This makes staying here feel more like being in a design‑led hideaway than a standard holiday let, and many guests leave with new ideas for their own homes.

Rare chalk stream right at the garden

Very few places let you experience a chalk stream from your own terrace, and Riverbank’s garden runs right alongside a clear, chalk‑fed river. In spring the banks burst with wild garlic and other woodland plants, and you can simply step outside to watch the water burble and glimmer as it flows past.

Immersive connection to wildlife

Staying at Riverbank feels like being dropped into the middle of a nature documentary: listen to woodpeckers in the woods by day, and tawny owls at night; watch for kingfishers flashing low along the river; and look out for deer, pheasants, red kites, frogs, toads and more from the windows or terrace. This makes it a particularly memorable place for nature‑loving couples, families and children.

Long, indulgent baths with a view

The cottage’s large cast‑iron bathtub is positioned to look straight out over the river and woodland, turning an everyday bath into a spa‑like ritual. Guests can soak in deep, hot water while watching the light shift through the trees and listening to birds and running water, which feels incredibly calming after a day exploring North Norfolk.

Cosy nights by the open wood burner

In the lounge there is a special open wood burner / inglenook fireplace that becomes the heart of the cottage on cooler evenings. Guests can curl up on the sofas with a book, glass of wine or board game while the fire crackles, creating the kind of slow, analogue evenings that are hard to find in everyday life.

Riverside dining on the terrace

On warm days and evenings, the riverside terrace lets you dine directly on the riverside, with the soft gurgle of the chalk stream as your soundtrack. Breakfasts feel fresh and invigorating out here, and candlelit suppers are particularly romantic, with reflections on the water and the sounds of the countryside all around.

Beautiful, historic walks from the door

From Riverbank you can step straight out into the Hunworth countryside, following lanes, footpaths and riverside tracks past woods, fields and wide viewpoints before looping back to the front door. Hunworth’s rich medieval history – from St Lawrence’s church and old castle earthworks to its mention in the Domesday Book – adds a real sense of place to these walks, so every stroll feels like a blend of nature, heritage and modern-luxury retreat.
