The river
A rare chalk stream, right by the terrace.
Very few places let you watch a chalk stream from your own terrace. Riverbank’s garden runs right alongside a clear, chalk-fed river: step outside and watch the water glimmer past, with wild garlic along the banks in spring.
It feels like being dropped into a nature documentary. Listen for woodpeckers by day and tawny owls at night, watch for kingfishers flashing low along the water, and look out for deer, pheasants, red kites, frogs and toads from the windows. The nights are truly dark: no street lights, just big starlit skies.

The large cast-iron bath looks straight out over the river and woodland. Soak in deep, hot water while the light shifts through the trees and the birds sing outside.

The wood burner in the lounge’s panelled inglenook is the heart of the cottage on cooler evenings: sofas, a book, a glass of wine or a board game while the fire crackles.
Suppers by the water
On warm days, eat on the riverside terrace with the gurgle of the stream for a soundtrack. Breakfasts out here are fresh and bright; candlelit suppers are properly romantic.

Step straight out into the Hunworth countryside: lanes, footpaths and riverside tracks past woods and fields, looping back to the front door. Hunworth is in the Domesday Book, and walks pass St Lawrence’s church and the earthworks of an old castle.
